Everyone wants to be successful, but few can do all it takes. The World has made us believe that to be successful, we have to do some certain things, get some things right, and keep going. However, the World failed to tell us that we have to leave some things behind if we want to be successful. There are things anyone who aims for success should quit. Success requires focus. Sometimes, it requires mono-focus i.e. focusing on a particular thing. If you find the daily schedule of the people you admire, you’ll see their focus is patterned to what builds them up, not random stuffs. Here are my five things you have to quit to be successful.
Anyone can give a million reasons why they couldn’t meet the target, why they couldn’t get the best grade, why they couldn’t arrive early. Excuses do not take away the consequences, it only give you a false reason why you can’t do something. You need to stop blaming other people and instead start blaming yourself. Nobody cares how old you are and who you are, the market will accept your victories if you are good enough to have a victory. Successful people know that they are responsible for every mistake and every single consequence of their actions. If you want to join that list, give up excuses.
Successful people buy bonds, they invest in stocks, they invest in treasury bills, these are not short-term investments. They take a year plus to yield fruits. This is the mindset of successful people. They know that good things take time. They do not seek make money fast schemes. Rather, they involve themselves in processes that may be long and tedious. They see the long-term gain. You have to cultivate the same long-term mindset and quit short-term mindset to be successful.
Warren Buffett once said that “Business schools reward complexity but business and life only reward simplicity.” That statement is very true. Living a complex life is living a life without direction. You know how it will end. You have to quit doing everything, start doing those things that you know you can do best. The thinking that onehas to be engaged in many complex things to be successful is nothing but a myth. It doesn’t exist anywhere. Successful people know you have to keep things simple.
Habit of Spending Before Saving
Mark Cuban said “the more you focus on debts, the less you focus on your goals.” People who have the habit of earning, spending(more than they earn),and saving (some don’t even save) are more likely to be in debt than those who earn, save, then spend. The more you focus on debts, the less you are able to focus on the important things. Start consciously increasing your net worth by saving more and spending less.
Saying Yes to Everything and Everyone
We’ve all been in the trap where someone wants us to do something and we just can’t seem to get a way to say no. Warren Buffett said this “the difference between successful people and very successful people is that very successful people say no to almost everything.” You have the power to choose when to say yes and when to say no. Anything or anyone who isn’t contributing to your success shouldn’t be a priority and you shouldn’t shy away from giving such a no. This is what successful people do.
