How to Create Lasting Change in Your Life

As we grow up making a change in our lives becomes more difficult, actually we are tempted to give up before we even start. Why is that so and is it actually true?
Often in our lives, we adapt to be in a certain way and we spend most of our life living up to these standards. It happens usually during our youth when we actually make decisions about what to believe, what we were capable of, who we are as a person and that becomes our glass ceiling. For changes to be of any value, they must be lasting and consistent. Here is a way on how to Create a Lasting Change.
Change Your Limiting Beliefs
Our beliefs are like unquestioned commands, telling us, what’s possible, what can be done, what cannot be done. So the first thing that needs to be done, in order for a lasting change to be created is to change your beliefs. A real change starts within each of us. In order for a change to be lasting, we need to truly believe we are capable of doing it.
For example, if you take a big giant elephant in a circus, they take a little rope put it around the elephant’s neck. They put a stake into the ground and that’s it the elephant does nothing. You look at this huge elephant, and you know that this elephant could rip down the entire tent however the elephant doesn’t even try. Why is that? That’s because the elephant is conditioned. They take this elephant when it is a baby and doesn’t have the power yet and they do the same process to the elephant. The elephant fights and fights and fights. One day the elephant decides that it’s not capable of pulling this out, and this becomes the definition of the elephant’s identity.
So what I ask you do that is to ask yourself when did this believe become part of your identity, part of who you are as a person? Are you going to let this limited belief shape your life or are you going to get what you want?
So before we actually meet these new standards we need to create a sense of certainty that we can and we will.
Raise Your Standards
People don’t always get their goals, but they always get their standards. Think about it, everybody has different standards, some people’s standards are to have good marks, others to have a good body, to be dressed nice, to have a successful career, etc. So what happens is that everybody gets their “musts”, but they don’t get their “shoulds”.
For changes to be of any value, they must be lasting and consistent. All of us have a should list, and it feels really good if we actually meet some of those “shoulds”, but if we don’t nothing happens. However there are moments in our lives when a should turns into a MUST and BAM, there is no way back. Something inside you has shifted and that’s the exact moment when a higher standard was created and at the same time, it becomes much easier to deal with this change. Either you have decided to quit smoking, do a diet, do sports on a daily basis, anything it just becomes easier to deal with it.
Well, we could believe that we can do something and we could actually raise the bar and decide to do it, but nothing is going to happen without any action. If you want something in your life, you need to take massive action. You can’t expect things to happen, just because you believe it, it won’t. Once you start taking massive action in order to get what you want, you will see that sometimes it just doesn’t work. From this, we get on the next step, which is Change Your Approach.
Change Your Approach
As I said once you start taking massive action, sometimes you’ll experience that no matter how much work you put into, you just won’t get the results you want. This implies that you are not doing it the right way. In this kind of situations, people usually tend to give up. However, what you really need to do is just change your approach and take massive action again. At some point, you’ll find the right way and you’ll start getting the results you’ve wanted.
